I finally have some down time to post this review after moving cities (again) post-work term in Ottawa. After packing (and unpacking) my life into 6 suitcases, I'm ready to relax with my Laneige Water Sleeping Pack_EX!
What this sleeping pack claims to do:
+ Provides intensive hydration, vitality, and brightening effects while restoring the skin
+ Provides deep relaxation through its aroma
+ Beta-glucan helps to hydrate fatigued and dry skin
+ Ceramide strengthens skin's barrier
+ Clears and evens skin tone through anti-oxidants
+ Removes dead skin cells
+ Locks in skin's water supply
+ Light gel texture helps for easy absorption into skin
+ Suitable for all skin types
This famous sleeping pack has been a cult classic and a popular favourite among women in Asia. Recently, it has skipped the pond and is now sold to American consumers through Target. In Canada, you can pick this product up at any Asian beauty specialty store or order online from reliable sellers (for a list, scroll to the bottom).
Now on to the good stuff! This sleeping pack is suitable for all skin types and can be used overnight 1-2 times per week. For dryer skin, this sleeping pack can be used more often throughout the week. During the winter, I use this several nights a week since my skin gets extremely dry and gross when the seasons turn cold. Ugh. My combination skin is like Dr. Jekyll-Mr. Hyde, oily as a frying pan in the summer then dry as pumice stone in the winter. Boo.
For sensitive skin, however, the heavy fragrance may be irritating for some people. The amount of fragrance isn't surprising since Laneige typically does use a lot of scents in their products. This is just a word of caution before you go out and buy this!
Full list of ingredients (click photo to enlarge):
Beta-glucan helps to clear up scar tissue at the epidermal-dermal junction. In turn, the skin is "remodeled" through increased cell communication between the epidermis and dermis. In other words, the skin's ability to rejuvenate and heal increases, and the immune function of the skin is improved.
Ceramides are natural lipids contained in the skin's epidermis (outer layer) and they help to lock in moisture. When ceramides become depleted, your skin becomes dryer and has a harder time retaining moisture effectively.
Other anti-oxidant ingredients include camellia sinesis leaf extract, Hunza apricot extracts, and chestnuts seed extracts.
The texture of the sleeping pack is also very light with a gel consistency. There is only a slight stickiness when first applying, but afterwards the product absorbs quickly into the skin.
Only major drawback is its jar packaging, which isn't very hygienic. A spatula is provided though and I highly recommend using it to scoop out the gel so that you won't contaminate the product with bacteria from your fingers.
Overall, this is a good over night restoring, moisturizing, and skin refining sleeping pack that is suitable for most skin types. Those with excessively oily skin may not need the extra moisture offered from this product, however, in my experience with combination skin (oily t-zone) this has not exacerbated any issues for me. However, this may not be moisturizing enough for those with extremely dry skin, particularly in harsher seasons and if you live in a very dry, cold place.
