REVIEW: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop

This is a fast-absorbing vitamin C face oil/serum from Klairs called the Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop which helps to brighten your skin tone, reduce the signs of ageing, and fade dark pigmentation.  I've been using it for a few months already and I'm about 75% through the bottle (it comes in a clear, dropper style glass container).



Vitamin C is an essential ingredient in a lot of products aiming to lighten freckles, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (think acne scars), melasma, and general skin unevenness.  Vitamin C comes in many chemical forms, which I won't get into in this review, but Dear Klairs uses ascorbic acid (5%) in this product.

According to the manufacturer, the product is non-irritating, transforming, and multi-solutioned - meaning the product has multiple beneficial effects for the skin without causing hyper-sensitivity. How to use?

I apply this nightly right before bed after I've (double) cleansed my face and applied a pH-adjusting/balancing toner.  Using just 2-3 drops, I apply it all over my face and then gently pat down/press to assist with absorption and to help warm up the skin.  After application, I apply my eye creams and night time moisturizer.  

Verdict?

Other than the clear bottle - it should really be opaque or at least tinted to protect the ingredients (particularly the ascorbic acid) from light degradation - this product has really impressed me in the I-wake-up-with-calm-clear-skin kind of way.  The calming, soothing, and overall skin tone balancing effect is noticeable after a few applications at night.  I wake up with more supple skin and less overall redness and irritation.  As for my PIH or sunspots, those have taken longer to fade.  I only started to notice a difference when I finished about 50% of the bottle which was several weeks in.  I would say that this product is best used in conjunction with other skin brightening and dark spot removal products such as an AHA or BHA based toner.  If you are afraid of over-sensitizing your skin since this product already has 5% ascorbic acid, then I suggest using a well-balanced toner with a pH of 5.5.
