REVIEW: Etude House Moistfull Super Collagen Eye Concentrate

This is one of my favourite lower-end eye creams.  Aside from how affordable this product is, the light-weight formula, fresh scent, and high moisture content make this Etude House Moistfull Super Collagen a regular in my skincare routine.

I've purchased high-end and often over-priced eye creams before and, to be honest, I've never notice a whole lot of difference between a super expensive brand and this Etude House Moistfull line.  In fact, this product has kept my eye area moisturized even throughout the cold and dry winters in Southern Ontario and the Maritimes.  However, it's not a miracle worker in that it won't magically erase dark circles or dramatically reduce puffiness.  Instead, this product is only ideal for moisturization.  Although that doesn't sound like a whole lot, moisturization is very key for the sensitive and thin skin around the eyes.  Well hydrated skin results in a reduction in the appearance of fine (or dry) wrinkles around the eye area.

Since using this product, I've noticed a significant reduction in dry wrinkles around my eyes (dry wrinkles happen when the skin's surface weakens from a lack of hydration).

Ingredients

HYDROLYZED COLLAGEN, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, HYDROGENATED POLYISOBUTENE, GLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, ADANSONIA DIGITATA FRUIT EXTRACT, CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, PEG-240/HDICOPOLYMER BIS-DECYLTETRADECETH-20 ETHER, CYCLOHEXASILOXANE, HYDROLYZED ADANSONIA DIGITATA EXTRACT, ADENOSINE, POLYSORBATE 60, HYDROXYETHYL ACRYLATE/SODIUM ACRYLOYLDIMETHYL TAURATE COPOLYMER, DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, CETEARYL GLUCOSIDE, GLYCERYL STEARATE, POLYGLYCERYL-3 METHYLGLUCOSE DISTEARATE, STEARIC ACID, HYDROGENATED LECITHIN, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, CARBOMER, KAOLIN, DISODIUM EDTA, PHENOXYETHANOL, FRAGRANCE

As you can see from the ingredient's list, hydrolyzed collagen is a major component in the formulation. According to Etude House, this eye cream contains 64% "super collagen". I'm not exactly sure what "super collagen" is and how that differs from normal collagen, but I assume it has something to do with the fact that the collagen in this product has been hydrolyzed.  What this means is the collagen has gone through a process whereby the proteins are reduced in size to become smaller peptides that can better penetrate the skin's surface.  Regular collagen, on the other hand, has a larger molecular weight and cannot penetrate the skin as effectively as hydrolyzed collagen.

Other notable ingredients include:
  • adenosine
  • kaolin
  • lecithin
  • hydrolyzed adansonia digitata fruit extract

However, there is also cetearyl alcohol, which can irritate some sensitive skin types or cause break outs in those whose skin cannot tolerate fatty alcohols. Although I have break-out prone combination skin, I have not experienced any issues.

The eye cream comes in a standard jar format and a spatula is provided.  Since the texture is a bit thick and gelatinous (from the collagen most likely), I can't imagine a pump bottle would work very well for the product.  In short, I have no complaints about the packaging and dispensing format of this eye cream.

Overall....I would definitely recommend this product to someone looking for a cheap eye cream that can provide good moisturization!
